Just Basements has been Ottawa's leading basement design build renovator for 20 years. We have learned a thing or two about creating spectacular basement spaces for our hundreds of renovation customers. Our many local and national awards did not come by accident; it takes passion, experience and hard work to be the best. Our in-house design team and our experienced basement craftsmen will turn your dreams into reality. Check out a few of our exceptional projects below.

Starting Line

Our client had a long list of expectations for their basement renovation, with a wish list that served everyone in their busy family.  The plan included a home office, a family room, exercise space, as well as a large walk in pantry. And we found room for it all!  A clean and rustic scheme brings the whole design together, creating a space that this family will enjoy for years to come.

The Blank Canvas

We were fortunate that the state of the lower level was very clean and all mechanical systems were in great working order.  Which always makes planning and preliminary measurements so much easier!

Seems Like a Plan

We managed to squeeze a very functional pantry, and home for the existing freezer, in the small space beside the stairs, which normally would have not been big enough for much else.  There was also room for a home office, conveniently located at the base of the stairs, meaning that the home owner would not have to walk through the entire basement to start their work day.

A few existing beams created a few pockets of lower head room, which we were able to hide along the exercise room and bathroom.  And still we were left with ample space for a family movie area and lots of unfinished storage.

Clean and Rustic

The client was looking for a bright and fresh space for the family to hang out in, but with a few warm touches.  We turned a niche in the family room into a great display area using vintage barnboard to create floating shelving.

The modern rustic look continues into the exercise room with oversized stained wood doors at the entrance.  Fresh paint colours on the walls, and plush carpeting rounds out the look for this cozy family space.

The Light at the End of the Tunnel

Although the colours and textures of the design are not shown, this rendering shows how the space is starting to come together.  This basement boasts generous pathways between all the different zones, making it feel like an extension of the main floor.

The Big Finish....

The best way to create a cohesive palette in a space is to repeat a few of the key elements throughout.  We took the warm wood tone from the flooring, and repeated in other ways, such as in the floating display shelving, the large double doors to the exercise room, and in the furniture.  This mixed with bright and clean paint finishes has made this basement feel like a great place to escape and watch a movie with the family.
