Home Is Where The Heart Is
Home....that word stayed top-of-mind when Just Basements collaborated with this tight-knit family to create a space that would feel like part of their home, would look like part of their home and would become a destination point for family and friends to be together, unwind and relax. Sit by the fire, or sit down for a movie, play a song or just play, work a bit or workout a bit, get together or be together. This basement space is just plain comfortable....what more could you ask for.
Can a basement space multi-task? Absolutely; probably more than any other area of your home. This sleek and stylish basement renovation required that the design allow for a family entertainment area that could transition to a business meeting space, and also function as a kiddy play area. The design included the family room with wet bar, custom storage installations and built-in desk, a stylish 3 pc. bath and a dedicated office area. One of the biggest design challenges for Just Basements was the travel distance from the stairs to the main areas, as well as, more structural posts than any basement designer wants to see. At Just Basements we love a challenge.
It's A Family Affair
A basement renovation should add more than space to a home. It needs to add to the family too. It should add to the way you live in your home. It should add to your way of life. It can if you want it to. It takes a dedication to good quality and good design. It takes a team effort between everyone interested in creating the living space. It takes expertise and experience. It takes you and Just Basements.
Dance, Laugh, Play
This basement living space is quite simply a huge family playground. Mom, Dad and the kids can relax by the fire, watch a movie, entertain friends and family, play some pinball, workout and even dance, dance, dance. Do you think this family spends any time down here.....you bet they do. Oh, and there's even a place to do a little homework. Life can't be all fun and games :)
Where do you go when you want to entertain large groups of family and friends? The basement of course. This spectacular space features a high tech home cinema and family room, a games area with pool table and games table, an incredible custom bar, fitness room and a full custom bath. Three screens, lighting control, home cinema projector and 7.1 surround sound system. 150 linear feet of custom, random, undulating ceiling. There is undoubtedly no other basement like this one.
The Family That Plays Together...
Our customers come to us to have their basement finished. What do we do first? We ask questions, lots of questions.....that's how we find out what you really want, what you really need and what we have to work with. Great basement spaces don't just happen. They take a lot of thought. They take a lot of input from our customers. They take a team effort to create a space that will work for your home and your family. This space was a great collaboration between Just Basements and our customers to develop a design and then follow through with the renovation which added not just valuable space to their home, but value to their lives.

Don't You Dare Say Man Cave!
A better description of this expansive basement living space might be "Subterranean Penthouse". If the goal for your basement project is a man cave, why not just hang-up your high school football sweater and your vintage beer can collection. If you are looking for a comfortable, stylish, sophisticated place for the guys.....that even the gals would love; you have to change your mindset of what a basement space can offer. The homeowner of this spectacular retreat wanted a contemporary, ultra cool place to hang out with friends. Throw out the standard basement stuff and create an urban lounge atmosphere right there in the suburbs.
This great basement boasts a huge media room for gaming, sports and entertaining. For more fun you can move to the games room complete with a custom bar, its own huge flat screen TV, pool table and foosball game.
The media zone is seamlessly integrated into custom cabinetry and finishes at a sleek fireplace with porcelain tile surround.

Classy is the new cool
We aim for basements to be an extension of the home; not to be hidden away. This is achieved by treating spaces with the same level of finish and respect a main floor of the home would receive. In this basement, the homeowners had a classic aesthetic achieved with a tone-on-tone palette and pops of the most current neutral - navy. This creates a space that is overflowing with class and timeless elegance. We took advantage of the added bonus of a little extra ceiling height and infused the space with dramatic lighting; a feature we would not otherwise be able to achieve in a more traditional basement.
A love for entertaining and music alike, the space is designed to provide multiple entertainment zones.
Just Basements Gym
Adjacent to the skate park is the fitness room which means the whole family can enjoy being active together. There is even the ability to hook up a slack line which runs 32 feet across the skate park and fitness room.

Ramping it Up!
The homeowner's children (and Dad) are scooter park enthusiasts and wanted a space that they could all enjoy together - even in the midst of Canadian winters. Adjacent to the skate park is the fitness room which means the whole family can enjoy being active together. There is even the ability to hook up a slack line which runs 32 feet across the skate park and fitness room.
This basement renovation is about all things family. Beautifully supporting moments for activity, quiet reflection, days and days of Monopoly, raucous fun or curling up on the couch for a great movie. Families are dynamic in their needs and the "skate park basement" as we have affectionately come to know it - is reflection of just that.

Open, active, interactive; were words used early in the design process….followed by sleek, warm, and sophisticated.
The room's design requirements included a 120 inch screen home cinema, pool table area, bar, wine cellar and sitting/games room. For entertainment purposes the main active areas need to be open and accessible to all. The bar was utilized as a central gathering place, a hub between the active rooms, a way to create visual depth at the bottom of the stairs and finally a method to deal with six of ten posts in the area. A conditioned wine cellar with full height glass doors and custom stainless steel racking creates a dramatic backdrop at the bar.

Ever wonder what would happen if you decided to go wild and make the basement of your dreams?
That is exactly what these homeowners’ tasked us with. As their children continue to grow, the goal for this basement was to create the “it” place to be for years to come. To achieve this, we explored it all – a theatre, wet bar, wine cellar, fitness, billiards, bathroom, lounge – and then some.
The concept for this space began with a barnwood wine cellar the customer came across in Montreal. We built up from there, not afraid to pursue moody colours and lots of texture. From matte black bar cabinetry and concrete-look quartz counters, to smoky hues on the walls in the lounge, fitness, theatre and wine cellar. Dark elements throughout anchor the design and provide contrast and drama.

There aren't many areas of the home that can multitask as well as a basement space can. And with this project we needed to find thoughtful and functional ways to incorporate very specific activities which could at times conflict with the other spaces, but could also be opened up allowing interaction and engagement when desired.
Our customers' wish list included some common requests for many basements: a media/family room, wet bar and powder room. But this space went further into the interests of the homeowner’s and dedicated space to a sewing/craft room and a soundproof “listening room”.
At the media area, a feature wall with spectacular tile becomes a focal point with built-in component storage and a wall-mounted television – in reality, this space encapsulates cumbersome structural posts that have been hidden within. And with that, a beautiful, functional, multi-tasking basement was born.
