When is a good time to renovate?

Great question and yet a tricky one to answer. To be honest, there is probably no good time to renovate, unless you can completely give up your home and move to a beach resort for the duration of your project. However, with the proper planning and the right company, you can have a fantastic renovation experience.

Kitchen and bathrooms can be the most difficult as they are such a personal and active part of your daily living. Basements seem to be a little bit easier as they are more tucked away and sometimes even closed off from the rest of your home.

However, there ARE ways to make your renovation as seamless as possible.

  1. Hire the right company! The right company will help you plan and prepare your renovation from beginning to end. They will help guide you with steps to take so you can still function within your home during your renovation.

  2. Talk it over with your family. Be open and honest with your family and children that it will be challenging some days but it will all be worth it in the end. Have your children create a scrap book or a calendar of the project.

  3. Talk it over with your design build company. Express your main concerns and never hesitate to ask questions. A great company will address your concerns prior to you having to ask.

  4. Make it as fun as possible. Prior to drywall, ask your design build company if you can create a full wall mural on the vapour barrier. Get out those multi coloured sharpies and have fun!

  5. Be positive, there will be challenges, however if you can look at this experience with a glass half full…maybe even with an actual glass half full, the energy and experience will be shared with your family. Short term pain for long term gain.

  6. Celebrate when the project is done, use the renovation time to start thinking

thinking about how you are going to decorate the space and then invite family and friends over to celebrate.

Making the decision to renovate your home is half the battle, by reading this; you are in the mind space and half way there.

Envision the end result and let us help you with the rest.

The whole difference between construction and creation is exactly this;

that a thing constructed can only be loved after it is constructed; but a thing created is loved before it exists.

Charles Dickens
